Perpetual Trophies

If you were awarded a perpetual trophy at last year's presentation night, congratulations. It is now time to bring it back to the club in preparation for its new recipient.

Off The Beach News

Howdy gang.
Well, here we are at the pointy end already! I can't believe how quickly it has come around. I should, as it happens every year the same way. Just as you are making a late charge for the silverware, the old calendar says "uh uh, get back where you belong Bucko".

Be that as it may, those that were there last Sunday, 13 finishers all up, enjoyed a beautiful autumn day with enough wind to get two races in, just. As I wasn't there I'm going on what RO Bill M has forwarded to me, thanks Bill. So, 13 boats headed out in about 8knts of wind from the North West-ish. RHIB crews of Rob C and Elly M in Woodsy with Rob W and Vince P in Sutherland dropped in the marks under the directions of the aforementioned Bill M, who was ably assisted by Asst RO, Nick M. Race one had the first finishers across the line in around 40 minutes and with the breeze beginning to fade, the top and wing marks were brought in about 150m and off they went again. As the wind was fading even more, Bill up anchored and headed to the top mark to shorten the course, arriving just in time to take up the slack on the anchor as Mono and Aurelia crossed the line for first in the Tasars closely followed by Finn M and Erik M in the Tasar borrowed from Greg L for the day. I wouldn't be so bold as to say Greg did that to keep his point count low, ha ha.

Six Sabres battled it out with the light wind specialist Di J swapping first and second in the two races with all round specialist, James T. Apparently Joe V snuck up on them all in the final metres but couldn't quite get them and crossed in 5th, closely followed by Scot and Ryan Mc in their Tasar. Those guys are getting better all the time and having a great time in the process. Even Norm K ventured out for one race, so it must have been over 20 degrees and under 20 knots! The light wind favored Dave and Luke P and their giant sail on the Nacra 5.9 over Ewan C's A Class in Div 6. Ross M had it all on his own in Div 3 as did Mark L in Div 5.

That about sums it up for last week, I wish I was there instead of Vanuatu soaking up the sun (it's only polite to say that isn't it?).

Next week brings the final round of the Southern Peninsula Community Bank Club Championship (takes longer to say it than sail it). And as well as our regular fleet, we will be joined by a bunch of Impulses as part of their Traveller series. Look out Ross, you might not have so easy this week!

That brings us to the end of the 25/26 season, with all series' having the required number of races finished and 3rd of May not required for a resail. However, something to mull over is the option to run a scratch day like we did after Christmas, with a bunch of short, one lap races and a minimum of time between starts. It was all agreed that we had a lot of fun that day as well as lots of start practice. Think about it during the week and we'll run it up the flagpole on Sunday.

Finally for this week is something that I've been putting out there for most of the season, in that I'll be stepping down as OTB Captain at the end of this season. It is a task and responsibility that I have thoroughly enjoyed, but after seven or eight seasons, I think it's time for someone else to have that fun and put their own spin on wrangling that bag of cats that we call the OTB fleet. I couldn't have managed this job without a huge amount of help along the way from such people as Geoff E and Super Deirdre S there week in week out manning the start boat and posting the scores. There were lots of others too but probably the greatest help was Bill Manning, without whom I never would have gotten that roster put together each year.

I found the roster is the hardest part of the job and made a rod for my own back by organising replacements for sailors who couldn't make it on certain occasions rather than making them work it out for themselves like in the good ol' days. It got to the point where I'm sure people were screening my calls because they knew what I'd be wanting. Thank you to those people that did pick up for without you we just would not have sailed that day, simple. Give it a thought, I've been asking, with no takers so far, but I'm sure one of you will step up and wear that thorny crown with pride (it's really not that bad!).

Also, while you have your thinking caps on, give a thought to who you would like to vote for as Club Person and Junior Club Person of the year. Send your nominations to
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. There's a link in the enews. Ther are lots of worthy contenders out there, probably in the Junior training area in my opinion, but that's entirely up to you, just as long as you vote. Do it!

That's all for now folks, see you on Sunday, and as always, the weather will be PERFECT!!

Cheers, Pete Chippy

Sausage Sizzle

To celebrate the end of a successful Junior Sailing Program, we will be having a celebration sausage sizzle after junior sailing, approx. 12 noon. As this will be timed perfectly for the arrival of OTB sailors for their arvo sail, there will be plenty of sausages for ALL sailors, young and old. Whilst the kids and their family will enjoy a complimentary sausage or to, we welcome a gold coin donation for all other hungry faces.

Bogan Bingo Success

SBSC! Youse bogans! WOW, WHAT A NIGHT!

Bogan Bingo was outstanding!  We knew we were on a winner when all you bogans started arriving in your mullets and flannies. The night was filled with laughter, great music and plenty of memorably cringewothy moments.

Our hosts, Spanna and Corbo, kept the crowd thoroughly entertained from start to finish, delivering cheeky, unapologetically politically incorrect performances that had everyone in stiches.

The atmosphere was electric. Rocking tunes set the tone for the evening filled with audience participation; number calling, spontaneous bursts of twerking (how’s your back Sue?) and what can we say about the air guitar solo performances from legends Vonnie, Lozza and Shanna? You ROCK!

Highlights of the evening included crowning SBSC’s biggest bogan; onya Lynlee; and the announcement of our very own Bogan King and Queen. You know who you are.

The costumes were fantastic to see: a sea of MULLETS, FLANNIES, MOCCIES, LEGGINGS, DOUBLE DENIMS and BANDANAS added to the vibe and energy of the evening.

A big bogan onya to all members and their guests who came along and supported the night. It was great to see such a strong turnout and so many people enjoying themselves. Events like this are a reminder of the fun community spirit that makes SBSC so special. Thanks go to the Social Committee for working so tirelessly to entertain us.

Save the Date

On this note, add 11/07/26 to your calendar. Our next social night is BOY FROM OZ MEETS ROCKET MAN. A little tamer that Bogan Bingo, it will also be a night to remember.
